Bird Protect Environmental
Reliable environmental intelligence from the earliest project stage
The Environmental Monitoring System is a flexible solution for continuous bird activity and environmental data collection across all phases of project development. It is especially valuable for future wind farm sites, where reliable baseline monitoring is required before construction, but it can also support permitting, environmental studies, operational monitoring and long-term compliance.

Monitor before you build. Understand before you decide.

What it does
The system continuously records bird activity and relevant environmental conditions, creating a structured data set that can support project planning, environmental assessments, reporting and regulatory requirements.
By providing objective, long-term monitoring, it helps developers and environmental specialists better understand wildlife activity at a site before and after project development.
How it works
Monitoring sensors are deployed directly at the project site and continuously collect wildlife and environmental data over extended periods.
The recorded information is processed and made available through IRIDA's monitoring and reporting tools, allowing activity patterns to be reviewed, analysed and transformed into structured reports for environmental studies, permitting and project decision-making.
Designed for
- Pre-construction monitoring of future wind farm sites
- Environmental Impact Assessments
- Bird activity and migration studies
- Baseline environmental studies
- Post-construction monitoring
- Environmental compliance programs
- Long-term biodiversity monitoring
Mobile Observation Units
Mobile Observation Units (MOU) bring IRIDA monitoring capability wherever it is needed, without permanent infrastructure. The towable, solar-powered units operate fully off-grid and can be deployed within hours — ideal for temporary campaigns, construction phases and seasonal coverage.
Mobile Observation Unit — Wildlife
- Bird & Bat Protect capabilities on board
- Towable, solar-powered, fully off-grid
- Deployable within hours, no permanent infrastructure
- Relocatable between project phases
Mobile Observation Unit — Forest
- Mobile fire watch for seasonal or temporary coverage
- Same towable, off-grid platform as MOU Wildlife
Flexible deployment
The Environmental Monitoring System can be installed on:
- Existing meteo masts
- Dedicated monitoring masts
- Temporary or portable structures
- Other suitable elevated monitoring locations
This allows the system to be adapted to the specific geography, study requirements and development stage of each project.
Autonomous, off-grid operation
For remote or undeveloped locations, the system can operate completely independently of local infrastructure. It can be:
- Powered by solar panels and battery systems
- Connected through 4G/5G networks
- Connected through satellite communications where mobile coverage is unavailable
- Configured for long-term autonomous operation
This makes it particularly suitable for early-stage wind farm developments and remote environmental study areas where power and communications infrastructure may not yet exist.
Key benefits
- Provides reliable data for project development
- Supports environmental permitting and EIA processes
- Enables structured reporting and long-term analysis
- Operates in remote and off-grid locations
- Reduces dependence on manual observation alone
- Supports monitoring before, during and after construction
- Creates a continuous environmental record of the site
Applications
Why Environmental Monitoring
Reliable environmental decisions start with reliable data. The system gives developers, consultants and environmental teams a continuous view of bird activity and site conditions, helping them build a stronger evidence base for permitting, project design and long-term monitoring.
