Bird Protect
Bird Protect Day, Night & Bat
Continuous protection, day and night
Bird Protect Day, Night & Bat is designed for wind farms that require continuous wildlife monitoring across the full 24-hour cycle. It combines daytime bird detection with nighttime monitoring for nocturnal birds and bats, providing one integrated solution for sites with multiple biodiversity risks.

One system. Day and night. Birds and bats.
What it does
The system continuously monitors wildlife activity around the turbine during both daylight and darkness. It supports the detection and tracking of birds during the day, while thermal sensing extends protection into nighttime conditions and enables bat monitoring.
This makes it particularly suitable for projects where both bird and bat protection requirements must be addressed within a single system.
One integrated system. Continuous wildlife protection.
Bird Protect™ Day, Night & Bat combines optical and thermal sensing with AI-powered monitoring to provide a unified solution for bird and bat protection at wind farms.
During daylight hours, optical cameras detect and track birds approaching the monitored turbine. Thermal cameras extend monitoring into nighttime conditions, supporting the detection of nocturnal bird movements and bat activity.
All sensing technologies operate within a coordinated system architecture, enabling centralized monitoring, event management and project-specific mitigation.
Rather than deploying separate solutions for birds and bats, wind farm operators benefit from a common infrastructure, unified software environment and coordinated operational response.
How Bird Protect™ Day, Night & Bat Works
Daytime Bird Detection
High-resolution optical cameras continuously monitor the surrounding airspace, detecting and tracking birds during daylight hours.
Nighttime Bird Monitoring
Thermal imaging enables the detection and tracking of birds under low-light and nighttime conditions, extending monitoring beyond daylight operation.
Bat Activity Detection
Thermal cameras monitor bat movements within the relevant detection range, providing information about activity around the turbine.
AI-Powered Analysis
Edge AI processes relevant sensor data to detect wildlife, analyse movement and support the evaluation of collision risk according to the system configuration.
Coordinated Mitigation
Based on configured thresholds and project requirements, the system can initiate acoustic deterrence, operator alerts or automated turbine curtailment through the applicable turbine interface.
Unified Event Management
Bird detections, bat activity, mitigation events and turbine responses can be managed through IRIDA's centralized MRA Cloud Platform.
Typical Detection and Mitigation Capabilities
- Daytime bird detection
- 700–1,000 m
- Nighttime bird detection
- Up to 400 m
- Bat detection
- Up to 150 m
- Acoustic deterrence
- Approximately 450 m
- Turbine curtailment activation

Detection and mitigation distances depend on environmental conditions, species, system configuration, turbine characteristics and project-specific requirements. Figures are indicative operating capabilities, not guaranteed performance under all conditions.
One system. One platform. Multiple advantages.
One Installation
A coordinated hardware architecture reduces the need for separate bird and bat installations.
One Monitoring Platform
Daytime birds, nighttime birds and bats are monitored through a common software and reporting environment.
One Maintenance Framework
A combined system simplifies maintenance planning, servicing and technical support.
One Platform Access Arrangement
Centralized access to detection events, system status, historical data and reporting.
Coordinated Turbine Integration
Bird and bat mitigation requirements can be managed through a unified operational architecture, subject to project configuration.
Consolidated Environmental Reporting
Bird and bat monitoring data can be reviewed within a common environment, supporting environmental assessments and compliance documentation.
Three monitoring capabilities. One integrated protection solution.
Designed for Demanding Environmental Requirements
Bird Protect™ Day, Night & Bat is particularly relevant for wind farms where environmental conditions, protected species or permitting requirements demand monitoring beyond daylight bird activity.
Typical applications include:
- Wind farms requiring combined bird and bat monitoring.
- Sites with nocturnal bird activity.
- Projects with protected bat species or sensitive habitats.
- Wind farms requiring automated wildlife-related turbine mitigation.
- Projects requiring consolidated biodiversity monitoring and reporting.
Compliance depends on the applicable permit and approved project configuration.

How it works
During daylight hours, high-resolution optical monitoring detects and tracks bird activity around the turbine. At night and during low-light conditions, thermal sensors monitor warm-blooded wildlife, allowing the system to detect nocturnal birds and bats.
AI-based analysis evaluates movement and potential collision risk in real time. Depending on the detected risk and configured protection strategy, the system can initiate appropriate mitigation actions, including bird deterrence and turbine curtailment.
Designed for
- Wind farms with both bird and bat activity
- Sites requiring continuous 24/7 wildlife monitoring
- Locations with significant nocturnal bird activity
- Areas with important bat populations
- Projects with combined bird and bat mitigation requirements
- Sites where a single integrated protection system is preferred
Why Bird Protect Day, Night & Bat
By combining daytime optical monitoring and nighttime thermal detection within one integrated platform, Bird Protect Day, Night & Bat provides continuous protection while simplifying installation, monitoring, maintenance, and system management.
